There was a lot of controversy as to whether Dami was worthy of receiving the X Factor title because as stated by many ‘she was not born in Australia and therefore, should not be given the privilege of winning the X Factor’, despite her outstanding singing and performance ability. Examples of Twitter posts that strongly disagree with Dami’s success include:
The use of the derogatory language such as ‘I mean she’s not even Australian’, coming from 3 different Twitter users, makes it very clear to the reader that there are a large amount of people in our society that fail to accept those of other races, showing just how naive and ungrateful people are to live in such a multicultural country. Conclusively, it can be seen through the use of social media, that while a large majority of our society are racist and therefore, have difficulty accepting those of other races, there are also a fair amount of people who are strongly against racism and stand up for what they believe in, while also standing up for the rights of others who unfairly treated.
