the funny racist
VANESSA, CLAUDIA M & STEPH
The type of racism shown above and to the left are examples of cyber racism which occurs in the cyber world. These two racist jokes are from the ‘Funny Racist’ twitter page. This page uses negative comments about two particular ethnic groups including Asians. It also targets, bullies, hassles and intimidates black people because of their race and the colour of their skin. It clearly states that these people are not racist, they are simply tweeting racist jokes because they are 'funny'.....is this really right? Are they not condoning racism at all? Who's to say the people following this blog are any better?
In the first example, which is racist towards African American people, a rhetorical question is used when asking the difference between ‘ a pizza and a black man’. This emphasises the fact that there is most definitely a racist remark about to be made. In the second example it targets Asians as an ethnic group, ‘how many Asians does it take to screw in a light bolb?” This phrase attracts the reader and stimulates a response or expectation, but it does not require a response. The response, 'Tree', shows the lack of respect these people have as they have insulted the way Asian people speak and pronounce certain words.
